Assessment and Reporting
As part of our vision for your child/ren to “celebrate success today and be prepared for success in tomorrow’s rapidly changing world”, we ensure our assessment processes are strategically considered and carefully planned to support your child/ren in their learning and progress. We know that by communicating with you and your child about how they are progressing in all their subjects, our pupils will feel inspired, challenged and grown as we make our way through each term.
The curriculum and assessment standards through which we assess pupils’ progress can be found via the hyperlinks included to our website for each of these items. Teachers formatively assess during each and every lesson to ensure misconceptions are picked up and addressed in the moment wherever possible. After lessons, teachers review pupils’ work to ensure the concept, skills and or knowledge being taught in that lesson have indeed been fully understood by all. Where this hasn’t happened, whole class feedback or individual verbal feedback helps pupils with the issues identified. Each subject conducts mini, low-stakes quizzes and or end of unit tests regularly to ascertain how pupils are progressing and in addition to this, there are more formal, summative tests, particularly in the core subjects (English, maths and science) to enable teachers, Heads of Faculty and the Leadership Team to ensure all pupils are on track to succeed.
The results of these summative tests form part of a bigger picture that guides teachers when reporting on how your child is progressing towards the TMS Standard in their subject at the end of each full term. For each subject, pupils will be either on track to achieve the TMS standard, working above it, working towards it or working below it. Pupils will also be given an Attitude to Learning grade for each subject..
As a family, please expect to receive the following information at the following times each academic year, to help you talk with your child about what they are learning and how they are progressing in each subject.
- October (at Learning Review Day): Attitude to Learning grade, attendance percentage, lates and TMS Bacc credits (KS3 only)
- End of both the Autumn and Easter term: Attitude to Learning grade and TMS Standard for each subject, attendance percentage, lates and TMS Bacc credits (KS3 only)
- End of Summer term: Attitude to Learning grade, TM Standard for each subject, attendance percentage, lates, TMS Bacc credits (KS3 only), targets to work on in English and maths, and a written tutor report (this includes a summary of how KS2 pupils did in their spring term Thrive Project)
Please note that the statutory requirement for schools is to report home once per year. We choose to report home four times to ensure pupils are “celebrating success today” and so that you can support where possible and appropriate. In addition to the reporting points listed above, each year group has a Parents’ and Carers’ Evening, the dates of which are in each weekly bulletin, and Year 5 have their settling in Meet and Greet Evening in September.
