Things You Need
If you are a pupil, you need a sturdy bag to carry all the gear you need for your lessons. If you are a teacher, you need an even bigger bag.
For safety in narrow corridors and storage in school, bags shouldn't be longer than 60cm. A separate smaller bag should be used to carry sports kit.
You should always have the book you are currently reading with you.
It's good to get into the habit of packing your bag each night with the things you'll need next day.
You should have
- a pen, with blue or black ink
- HB pencils for writing and sketching
- H pencils for Maths and Technical Drawing
- coloured pencils
- a rubber and pencil sharpener
- a 30cm or 15cm ruler
- a set square
- a solid (no holes), transparent 180° protractor
- a pair of compasses, with a short pencil
- a dictionary
- an apron for practical work in art, DT and science
- an A4 envelope folder for holding loose sheets, with your name on it
You might also want to consider
- a water bottle
- a glue stick
- in year 6 you will need a calculator. Calculators are not allowed in year 5.
You are not allowed to use
- correction fluid or tape, such as Tippex
- solvent-based glues
- felt-tip pens (they leak through paper)
Keep your exercise books tidy, and make sure that any work you do is dated and given an underlined heading. Be proud of your work.
Everyone has a homework timetable which is made to spread work evenly over the week. Make sure you do your homework regularly and properly and record it in your handbook.
