p2i Pathway to Independence
P2i is learning out of school hours and is our home learning scheme. It encourages pupils to work more independently and take greater responsibility for their own success. Our pupils are encouraged to present their work in a variety of media they enjoy working in, including…
- cooking
- painting
- music
- models
- poetry
- video
- computer applications
… in fact any form in which they feel they can excel.
Pupils are encouraged to consider these activities they take part in outside school as important aspects to their learning and development as citizens, and are encouraged to discuss them with their peers and staff.
p2i Tasks
Each subject sets a project-based activity for pupils to complete for a certain number of weeks. The tasks are introduced in lesson time and teachers provide support and guidance, if needed, to help pupils complete them. The tasks are in addition to normal homework as timetabled in the pupil handbook.
Pupils will be given a p2i approximately once every two months and will complete all subject areas over four years — that's seven activities every key stage. Each task is designed to take approximately two to four hours, and pupils have approximately four weeks to complete the task.
Deadlines for tasks are staggered throughout the term to assist pupils and staff manage their workloads effectively. Pupils have copies of their tasks in their handbooks or exercise books.
Assessment
p2i forms part of pupils' progress review assessments. They are awarded an attainment score of 4 to 0 and an effort grade of A to E by each curriculum area. These scores contribute to an attitude-to-learning score which lets us monitor pupils' progress through the school.
Pupils get feedback on their p2i assignments within 2 to 3 weeks of the deadline date (excluding school holiday time). They are given their attainment and effort grades as well as written comments showing what went well and even better if. Pupils can be clear about their strengths and how to improve on the next task. The feedback sheet is sent home in the pupil handbook.
Parental involvement
We rely on parental support and encouragement to help children with time management and planning; but pupils get the best out of p2i when allowed to work through the tasks independently.
