Information & Communication Technology
We teach Information & Communication Technology as a discrete subject. Each pupil receives one lesson per week specialist teaching. Our pupils also use Information & Communication Technology in almost all of the other subjects.
We aim to give children the opportunity to be confident in their frequent use of computers and their accompanying technology.
Special Needs
Our pupils with Special Educational Needs often find life easier using a computer and the ICT department lends its support in these circumstances.
Assessment
We continuously monitor pupils' performance, focussing on the skills they acquire. There is also an informal assessment at the transfer to Upper School, using National Curriculum criteria.
Resources
In addition to the ICT teaching room, there is another ICT suite that can be booked by departments to support their curriculum teaching. Almost all classrooms have access to at least one computer. Our staff also use laptops and interactive whiteboards.
Our computer suites are equipped to allow one PC per pupil in class teaching, and the library has its own PCs which are connected to the school network.
All computers have monitored access to the Internet through the Education Authority's computer network.
School trip
Year 6 have the opportunity to go on a week's combined Activity and ICT trip.
