History
We teach History as a separate subject throughout all four years at Trevelyan. Pupils are taught in form groups.
Year 5
An introductory unit includes the use of timelines, family trees and using artefacts.
- The Victorians
Year 6
- Victorian Windsor - local history
- The Aztecs
Year 7
- The Roman Empire
- Medieval realms (Britain 1066-1500)
Year 8
- The Making of the United Kingdom (Britain 1500-1750)
- Indigenous peoples of North America
Assessment
Our assessment is based on several key pieces of work within each module, so that a picture of each child's progress is established over time.
Resources
The History department uses video material where appropriate, as well as a wide range of books and pictorial resources to facilitate flexible learning approaches.
We have some excellent ICT resources and cross-curricular links, for example with Art and Technology, are a key feature.
In recent years we have had visits from "Learning in Action" theatre group re-enacting life in Victorian Britain.
