Art

The school has good links with local middle and upper schools and the impact of the federated specialist arts status has had a significant impact on the development of the arts, including performing arts, at the school. Ofsted 2008

Trevelyan is an Associate Arts College, linked to The Windsor Boys' School.

Our pupils in both Key Stage 2 and 3 can:

  • undertake a balanced programme of art, craft and design activities which builds on previous work and takes account of previous achievement
  • work individually, in groups and as a whole class
  • make appropriate use of Information Technology
  • work in two and three dimensions and in a variety of scales
  • evaluate their own and other work.

We aim to give an understanding and appreciate art in a variety of genres and styles from a different cultures, Western and Non-western.

Pupils can work on such projects as making masks, mosaics, models, still life drawing, portraiture as well as the more standard art work involving pastels and water paints.

Work completed at Trevelyan is collected into a folder which forms the basis of the transfer documents with Upper Schools. We have regular meetings with colleagues in both First and Upper Schools to ensure continuity and progression.

Assessment

Self- and teacher-assessment, using National Curriculum criteria.

Facilities

There are two rooms within the Art Department, with access to a computer with scanner and colour printer, and printing equipment.

Achievements

Art work completed by pupils is regularly displayed both in the art rooms and in the schools corridors. An art exhibition is held at regular intervals at the Windsor Arts Centre Gallery.
