Swimming Compliance

As a Middle School we do not offer swimming to our KS2 students as they receive lessons at their first schools at KS1.

There is a clip from the Swim England website stating that additional swimming can be provided to target pupils:

About the PE and sport premium funding:

Schools receive PE and sport premium funding based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6 (or pupils aged five to 10 if they don’t follow year groups).

Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of the PE and sport they offer. For swimming and water safety this includes:

provide additional swimming provision targeted to pupils not able to meet the swimming requirements of the national curriculum

Based on this advice we send out a questionnaire to parents of students in Year 6 in Term 1 / 2 and ask them to confirm what first school their child attends, whether their child has ever received swimming lessons and whether their child can swim 25m (which they should be aware of from their first school).

Based on this information received it is collated into a spreadsheet and the students who have been listed as not being able to swim 25m are offered Booster sessions with a contribution from the Sport Premium funding.

In 2018 we are taking 16 children off to Windsor Leisure Centre for booster sessions during Term 5.
